Abstract

olymeric films were prepared from different methacrylic copolymers containing perfluoropolyether chains of the type: CF3CF2O (CF2CF2O)(m)(CF2O).CF2- Investigations of the films by dynamic contact angle measurements and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed a considerable difference between the surface and the bulk composition, with highly hydrophobic and lipophobic outermost layers created by the alignment of the perfluoroalkoxy groups. On the two sides of the polymer films different surface characteristics were found depending on the substrate employed. A dynamic surface rearrangement was observed when the films were exposed to different environments; depending on the chemical composition and the structure of the films, the restructuring was found to be reversible to the original state.
