The performance of three coherent receiver configurations for GMSK modulation is compared, in the presence of a concatenated Reed-Solomon and convolutional encoding scheme as recommended by CCSDS. It is shown that the end- to-end performance loss of GMSK modulation over the CCSDS satellite channel can range from 0.01 to 0.16 dB compared to the OQPSK modulation used today on an ideal channel.
