In this paper we propose a novel Weighted Monte Carlo scheme which overcomes the intrinsic limitations of the conventional Monte Carlo method in describing the electro-optical response of some semiconductor-based quantum devices—e.g., huge photocurrent fluctuations in photodetectors. More specifically, to avoid potential numerical instabilities of existing weighted Monte Carlo approaches at long simulation times, we derive a version of the method specifically designed for the study of the steady-state regime. The latter, based again on the particle-counting paradigm, comes out to be statistically stable also in the long-time limit.
