The paper presents the first results coming from the extension and the calibration – within the oil industry context - of a new kinematic model which was developed and built up within an experimental study stage particularly concerning small size drilling operations inside concrete. The aim consists in strongly supporting the bit run analysis and optimization processes as far as any kind of drilling activity in the oil industry is concerned. The increase of the size of the studied domains and the modelling of the overall reality of the oil drilling situation have been the first steps of the work, followed by a careful validation phase, performed on the basis of the availability of real practical field data (collected in Europe and in Northern Africa), thanks to the cooperation of Oil and Service Companies. The potentiality of the final model was shown to be great indeed, in particular including the performed parametric check and analysis tasks. Moreover, particular attention has been devoted to the bit wear problems, but the present study not only concerns the composition and the operational asset of the BHA (bottom hole assembly) but also the energy generation, transformation and exploitation aspects occurring both at the surface of the rig site and inside the whole well at any stage of the drilling process.
