A microscopic treatment of the charge‐carrier and photon dynamics in semiconductor‐based opto‐electronic quantum devices is proposed. In particular, two coupled Boltzmann‐like equations for the carrier‐photon system are derived and then sampled by means of a weighted Monte Carlo technique. Preliminary results for the lasing build‐up in state‐of‐the‐art quantum‐cascade lasers confirm the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Abstract
