The Piedmont is in fact characterized by the presence in recent years of increasingly situations of excellence in the field of design, which accompany the ongoing transformation of Turin from industrial city to an European Research city. Experience Turin means also to build a model for subsequent appointments of candidate cities, placing the city as the first test of the program World Design Capital. The presence of research centres, style centers, laboratories of models and prototypes, pattern in many productive sectors in Piedmont, testifies to the validity of the design as a moment of great vitality in order to optimize development and cross aggregation, and create a new socio-economic system more balanced and sustainable. Abstract

The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, choosing Turin as the first World Design Capital for 2008, intended to propose an audience of experts and not only a depth view on the culture of the project, highlighting both the values of Piedmont and international issues confronting contemporary design. The spirit behind all events will be to present the design as a new engine in the global economic growth and industrial and highlight how design and innovation can contribute significantly to place a local or national system in the world landscape. The year of experimenting with Turin 2008 WDC will be divided into four phases, each considered a cardinal point of contemporary design ; the various actors who will be interacting during the phases are citizens, businesses, the world of training, the institutions; themes of phases will be: PublicDesign -Economy and design - Education and design - Design policies. The productive sectors will be involved: automotive / aerospace / rail / water / film / information and communication technology / jewellery and goldsmith / textiles, clothing and sport / sparkling wines and / agrifood and food / home automation and home design. Within the activities involved will be present the area of Domestic, the one of Exhibition Design, and finally that of Retail. The contribution intends to propose, within the overview of the initiatives that Turin present in the coming months, a detailed examination of the macro areas suggested by the Conference.
