Wireless communication advances enable emerging video streaming applications to mobile handheld devices. For example, it is possible to show and interact with a complex 3D virtual environment on a “thin” mobile device through remote rendering techniques, where a rendering server is in charge to render 3D data and stream the corresponding image flow to the demanding client. However, due to bandwidth fluctuating characteristics and limited mobile device CPU capabilities, it is extremely challenging to design effective systems for interactive streaming multimedia over wireless networks. This paper presents a novel approach based on a controller able to automatically adjust streaming parameters basing on feedback measures coming back from the client device. Experimental results prove the effectiveness of the proposed solution to cope with bandwidth changes, thus providing a high Quality of Service (QoS) in remote visualizations.
