In last years digital graphics processing has been regarded an established practice and a necessary transition in the usual design activities. On the one hand the common opinion considers that the informatics tools have brought benefits to the field of building design, on the other one, it is not obvious to affirm that the traditional CAD is not considered so efficient in reducing the risk of errors or omissions. The division into different levels of drawing has always been a topical issue in order to standardize the information and the methods used, deeply analyzed by the Institutes of International Standardization. Nowadays BIM applications provide much higher quality results than the traditional two-dimensional CAD applications, although the BIM methodologies are often associated with an easier method of virtual modeling, not able to reveal the full capabilities of the database that is managed inside. Again, it is needed the adoption of standards: among the most used protocols we quote the National BIM Standard Committee (NBIMS), based on concepts of data interoperability together with the respective taxonomies: it is based on a hierarchical management of information using significantly different approached than in the past, including the classifications, the guidelines and the establishment of the best practices. The theoretical contribution intends to present the current status of the art for the standardization of innovative information technologies, aimed at transforming the improvised generic procedures into real workflow consistent with predefined procedures. Abstract

This contribution show practical application of architectural and structural design of some interventions within the Cittadella Politecnica, thanks to the fruitful collaboration between DISEG researchers (Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering) of the Politecnico di Torino and the Building Service of the same university.
