This work aims to investigate, through the case of Place Stalingrad, the role of the Atelier parisien d'urbanisme (Apur) within the urban transformations of public space in Paris between 1974 and 1989. The Apur in this period appears gradually as an institution that reflects some outcomes of the architectural culture related to the architecture urbaine and which is able to transform them into real transformation. At the same time the instances born from the consideration of a social construction of space appears in the Parisian institutional context, gradually reduced in a direct and mechanical relationship between social forms and urban environment. An analysis of this relationship trough a method, that tries to escape from the perspective of the architects in charge of the transformation, rise new questions about the relationship between architecture and urban society. A crossed research on archival sources, produced by the architects and by the same Apur, allow, in the case of Stalingrad, these different perspectives.
