This paper shows the outcome of the research carried out on a new type of building envelope called "Panel for Building" patented by AbitareVerde Srl. The innovation of this technology is the use of low cost and large production materials to develop a highly efficient system by an integrated approach concerning the structural, thermal and acoustic performance optimization. The panel provides high thermal performance and can be used as a structural wall, also fulfilling the acoustic requirements. The research was aimed at finding the optimal panel configuration, choosing the materials and devices that will best meet performance requirements. The panel is composed of three sections: the structural part, the external and the internal counterwall, which together form a flexible and performing envelope. The structure is able to resist to the expected loads typical of residential buildings providing an high level of thermal and acoustic insulation. The "Panel for Building" is a high-performance building envelope, which reaches the requirements for Zero Energy Building. This system also reduces the construction time since the panel is built in factory and then assembled on site, with low cost and environmental impact.
