Abstract

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are being increasingly adopted in civil applications and are penetrating in many fields, thanks to their accessibility and to the easiness of their use both as low-cost vectors and as surveillance vehicles. On the other hand, in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) domain, vehicular communications represent a valuable mean to enforce safety, through the rich information exchanged by Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2X) interactions. In this paper we present an innovative safety monitoring system leveraging UAVs communicating with cars. The objective is to use autonomous and automated control of drones to monitor the scene of accidents and upload information (e.g. pictures) useful to the effectiveness of emergency aid services, but also helpful for insurance and law enforcement bodies.
