A design architect working today may have access to a range of software applications designed for a number of different sectors: this may bring them into contact with the disciplines to which the programmes belong; what at first glance appears to be a technological opportunity fast becomes a professional challenge. But to what degree is it possible to expect architects to step outside their comfort zone and address questions that come from other disciplines? To answer the question, we look at the broader construction process, in particular the separation between the conception stage and design development. At the regard, it is very close to Brunel-leschi’s design process and the manner of his research, connected with the act of making in concert with oth-ers. The thinking will be developed by addressing to topic issues such as the role of the use of digital technol-ogies, arguing about theoretical knowledge and some examples of teaching experiences.
